Open throat, deeper voice

A calm trainer for the released low voice — with a live mic tuner — for the week around your thyroidectomy.

The one idea that fixes everything

Your throat is the source of the sound — not the target. Aim the buzz at your throat and you guard the larynx: thin, tight, effortful. Leave the throat relaxed and put attention in the chest (depth) with a touch of mask (richness). The voice deepens when you stop pushing.

If you feel effort at the Adam's apple, you're forcing it. Back off until the low note happens by itself.

Pitch vs. resonance — two different dials

People chase "deeper" by shoving the pitch down. That's the wrong dial and it strains.

Pitch — how high/low the note is (the fundamental frequency your vocal folds set). Forcing it to the floor = vocal fry + strain.
Resonance / timbre — how warm or bright it sounds, set by the size & shape of the tube (larynx height, pharynx, mouth). This is the real "depth" dial.

A deep voice is mostly low resonance (a big, warm tube — dropped larynx, open pharynx, round vowels) sitting on a relaxed, comfortably-low pitch. You can sound noticeably deeper without dropping your pitch much — just by opening the space. The Pitch · mic tab shows both live: your pitch (note/Hz) and your warmth.

Chest is your target for depth. Mask adds carry so deep doesn't go dull. The throat is off-limits as a target.

Six levers for depth

  • Open jaw + round vowels (oh / aw / oo) — a bigger tube = deeper timbre.
  • Slow, supported breath — relaxed thick folds; don't push air.
  • Downward inflection + slower pace — let phrases fall, not rise.
  • Tall posture, lifted sternum — opens the chest resonator.
  • A touch of mask "ping" (mmm / nnng) — richness & carry.
  • Comfortable low, not fry — sit a little above rock-bottom.
